Pierce County Neighborhood Crime

Kevin was kind enough to fill me in on a new web site that Pierce county has rolled out that allows you to view crime data within a certain radius of an address, ala google maps style. The Trib has a write up about the new tool which can give residents and future residents some really useful information about their neighborhoods.
One of the more interesting aspects of this tool is the trend statistics, which helps residents understand if things are getting better or worse.
I’m happy to report that over the past year there has been a – 50.0% change (decrease) in homicides within a .5 mile radius of my house! That’s good to hear, but I’m a bit alarmed by the 47% increase in Intimidation Crime (actions which threaten, harass, or annoy the victim) in my neighborhood! I’ll have to work on being more annoying…
So what can you do about crime in your neighborhood? Here are a few helpful links and things you can do to get involved and promote positive change.
You can . . .
Contact your Community Liaison Officer for starters…
then get involve with Safe Streets: Uniting Neighbors against Crime!!
or work with Crime Stoppers!!
If those don’t help, here’s even more links from The “TPD:Online”
and remember…. Take a BITE out of crime… and Say NO to Drugs!... and Only YOU can prevent forest fires! That about covers it…. right?
