Stadium Video
I just realized today that the crew down at Stadium Video (the only place to rent dvd’s and movies in Tacoma!) have been running a email newsletter. It’s only been going on forever apparently but clearly i’m slow to the take. For anyone who’s there with me Stadium Video is located on 29 Tacoma Ave N (in the basement of the Harvester) and has the best selection of new release and classic dvd’s and movies in town – hands down – it’s not even close.
They have been nothing but great to us over the years so i’m more than happy to give them a shameless plug. With any luck i’ll talk Marty into posting from time to time.
Here’s a small sample of their newsletter, my favorite are the Staff picks. Next time your down renting a movie ask how you can join.
August Deal!
All films from our Directors sections are $0.99 for 4 days!

Lost: Season 1 I could not stop watching this TV series about people stuck on an island after an airplane crash. This Emmy-nominated series sounds cheesy but it isn’t, and it should not be missed.

Young Frankenstein In my opinion, this is Mel Brooks’ finest work. Where some of his movies tend to be excessive in their use of gags, here they work in support of the story instead of against it. The cinematography, costumes and sets are all excellent, especially the laboratory which used the same equipment that was featured in James Whale’s Frankenstein starring Boris Karloff. One of the best Frankenstein movies ever made, second only to the Bride of Frankenstein.

Bride of Frankenstein One of the few sequels that surpass the original, this continues the story of Frankenstein’s sympathetic monster, misunderstood by the world and unlucky in love. The sequence where Dr. Pretorious is tending to his collection of homunculi (the tiny people in jars) predates computer special effects by about 50 years and yet it still looks flawless. Boris Karloff’s monster (speechless in the original) gets the movie’s best line: “I love dead… hate living”.
Special Guest Recommendation: Everett!
Batman Adam West’s Batman is much maligned in these days of the Dark Knight, but it’s still a whole lot of fun. Besides how can this be any campier than the Batman with the nippled costume?
