Tacomaness.com: The Freighthouse Square Challange!

The Freighthouse Square Challange!

I’m ready for the next summer challenge, how about you? The post about my E9 adventure was an important lead in to this event. This time around I’m giving my liver much needed rest and putting my stomach on the line. I’ve been riding the sounder commuter train home to Tacoma more often and I’ve had a chance to explore freight house square a little. I was fascinated and to be honest a little frightened by the food court area but more importantly I’m always hungry when I get off the train.

So the challenge??
12 different dining options . . .
And as long as it takes. . .

The reward?
I doubt they are going to put my name on a plaque so we’ll just have to settle for self accomplishment.

It seemed really strange that maybe about 99.% of the sounder commuters go running for their cars without stopping for a bite to eat. There’s a diverse enough mixture of restaurants; Greek, Vietnamese, Mexican, Pizza even a Fish and Chips joint. For those completely afraid of a chance there’s even a subway.

So far I have two under my belt, the Mexican and Greek restaurants. I don’t plan to do extensive, food critic write up’s but I’ll point out what I liked . . . what I didn’t and with any luck I won’t have to talk about any late nights with my head in the toilet bowl.

So far the owners, operators and cooks seem like a nice enough bunch, I’m not sure how they stay in business with the amount of people I’ve seen hanging out in this place but that will be just one of the many mysteries to solve.

Wish me luck, and stop by week days around 5:20 if you want to join me for dinner.

Wendy’s makes up a GREAT chicken chow mein dish. I don’t get out there more than once every few months, but every time I do I make sure to stop by there. (And I’ve been doing so for years) It’s a pretty big plateful too.

I second Wendy’s. They have great vegetarian dishes as well.

They may put your name on a “plague” (see your original post) if one of the fine establishments makes you sick enough. :-) Couldn’t resist pointing out the faux pas. Great blog, keep it up.

John, too funny and thanks.. so the question. Freudian slip or spell check gone wrong??

Have done the Greek place—we liked it—although I haven’t been back since. Frinklin rides the Sounder and is there at 5:20 too. He tried the Mexican food last week and declared it “OK.” I have yet to find any Mexican food that I like here. I’ll be waiting to hear your take on the other spots.

Well I have three down.. The last was Wendys based on the recommendation of Steve and others. I ordered a spicy dish on a really hot day; I’m pretty sure they were making fun of me in Vietnamese, but it was tasty. For good Mexican.. I’d head to Taco’s Guaymas which is some of the best fast-food Mexican to be had in Tacoma. http://www.tacosguaymas.com/ The one in Tacoma is just West of the Mall on 38th. I’ll chime in officially on my progress sometime next week.

The fish and chips place is great and the Bulgogi at Asian BBQ is awesome.
Also, new “Knotworks Massage” is cool!Suite 212.
