Two Five Trees !

If you’re looking for a way to combat the guilt you usually get after cutting down a living tree; only to wrap it in lights you leave on all day and night…. I have the cure.
Visit our friends at Two Five Trees in downtown Tacoma where you’ll feel better knowing you’re supporting a Tacoma community collaboration and helping those in need. (don’t forget to bring some food to donate !)
About Two Five Trees
After months of planning and a lot of collaboration with Go Local, Downtown Merchants Group, the Chamber of Commerce and various city departments, Two Five Trees will be open for business Friday! Come on down for the best deals on Christmas trees in town (feel free to call it a Holiday tree for any wanting a tree without the “Christmas”). We’re excited to participate in the return of celebrating the holidays in our beloved Downtown!
Location: Tollefson Plaze, Downtown Tacoma, S. 17th and Pacific Ave
Dates and Times: Starting Friday, November 27th, through Tollefest, on to the end of the season.
What: Lowest prices on Christmas trees in Tacoma; free candy canes, hot chocolate, and boughs; complimentary loading and twine; lots of fun events.
Trees: Blue Spruce, Grand Firs, Douglas Firs, Nobles, Table Top Nobles, White Pine–all grown locally.
Events: Two Five Trees will be a featured part of Tollefest 2009, the first weekend of December. Keep checking back here for details on other fun events lined up like pictures with Santa and live choral performances.
Community: Two Five Trees is firstly about the community of Downtown Tacoma and Tacoma at large. Bring a can of food down and get $1 off your tree. Know a family that can’t afford a tree? Write us and tell us why you think they should be a recipient of one of the trees we’re giving to families in need. But, let’s be honest, doing something, anything, in Tollefson is a community effort in itself. It’s time that Downtown and Tacoma have more feet on the street and engaged in civic centers… even if just to buy a Christmas tree.

Rita From The Dockyard Derby Dames Knows...
…I don’t know 100% what tacomaness is, but I think it is both gritty and beautiful… like rollergirls:
Dockyard Derby Dames ~ Season 3 Bout 2

The rough and tumble rollergirls of Tacoma are into their third season. If you haven’t experienced them yet, get ready to see womens athletics like you’ve never seen it before. In addition to sport, there is also plenty of room for personal expression from the customized uniforms to the each skater’s own adopted persona.
The Spring 2009 edition of South Sound Magazine describes the scene aptly: “The bouts mesh a frenzy of sports action with a diverse atmosphere of wholesome counter-culture that attracts a dizzying assortment of Puget Sound residents. Veteran fans come equipped with lawn chairs and blankets, and sit as close as possible to the track, risking a player landing in their lap. Others observe the action from the bird’s-eye perspective of the beer garden, sipping two-dollar tallboys. Many simply meander through the festival, soaking in some of the best people watching south of Seattle’s Pike Place Market.” (http://www.southsoundmag.com/article_read.php?articleid=92)
Bout 2 of this season features a face off between the hard-hitting Maurading Mollys and the always-alluring Hellbound Homewreckers. In addition, the reigning champions, the Trampires, will go up against their fiercest competitors, the Femme Fianna, to see if they still have what it takes to be #1. If you haven’t seen flat-track roller derby, this action packed night will be a great introduction!
